The Milkman used to deliver milk to homes daily by wagon contained in reusable glass bottles. Bottles were used then returned as exchange. The Milkman, like a postman, delivered items each day during the week to homes around the country who relied on farmers to produce food that was delivered to them in urban areas like cities and suburbs. The milk and cream products the milkmen brought city dwellers was a common food pantry item and staple in most American households used not simply to drink but as a common topper for cereals and used routinely as an ingredient in many creamed soups, cakes, cookies, breads, muffins, and cream sauces.
